Highlights Recap

The session opened with the ambush of the Cthulhu Frogs, which hit the party hard during their two surprise rounds. Once that was over, though, the party was able to make relatively short work of the creatures without too much trouble. I want to say “in part because of the efforts of a brave local cleric who came outta nowhere to save them,” but honestly he was kinda ineffective.

They continued on their way to the Finnaw capitol, where they were able to pretty much get the run of the place by explaining their need to shoot B-Roll footage for the video essay on Finnaw art and culture they were producing. This allowed them to place their biological weapon into a drainage grate in the Finnaw senate chambers. So if they ever need to wipe this species out, they can do it pretty much whenever.

The party’s new cleric noticed, using his class’s magic-detecting abilities, that all the Finnaw had some kind of residual magic clinging to them. He wasn’t able to identify it any further, however, because the actual magic effect had long ago ended. Something was done to the Finnaw, but now they’re just living their lives in a new changed state.

The party split up: some did interviews, some investigated the Finnaw’s primitive internet forums, some perused their news archives, some examined their past and present artworks, and some dug into the mass grave where non-complying Finnaw were interred. The party discovered a number of things:

-The Finnaw’s hatred of the Glurn was an instantaneous thing. The refer to it as a cultural awakening. A moment of spontaneous upwards evolution that allowed them to understand how awful the Glurn are. It occurred on March 15th (about 3mo ago), when everyone woke up in the morning.

-There was a number of different things going on around the time of the “awakening.” Some cave explorations, some minor territorial disputes with the Glurn, and some trade and land access negotiations. Pre awakening documents seem to indicate it was mostly peaceful, and that any group advocating violence as tiny and marginalized.

-Finnaw art since the awakening has focused mostly on finding new and ever more gruesome ways to depict the death of Glurns. There’s also quite a bit that expresses the moment of enlightenment that occurred when people woke up on March 15th.

-A small segment of Finnaw society (1-2%) did not “awaken” with the rest, and were immediately branded social outcasts. Within a few days they were exterminated. Even pre-verbal infants were killed if they didn’t have a strong averse reaction to the smell of Glurn Slime.

-The non-awakened (at least those which were identified), mostly fell into 3 groups: infants, adolescents & young adults, and municipal workers like street cleaners and lamp lighters.

The party put forward a few different plans. Since their cleric friend can sense people who have been magically affected, he could potentially find non-awakened Finnaw who could help the party understand what happened.

Agamoni attempted to draw these Finnaw out by placing some graffiti on walls which reads “Does all of this seem strange to you?” followed by her phone number.

While the party waits for the graffiti plan to pan out, they’re going to explore some of the caverns that were being explored on March 15th.

The session ended in media res. The next session will begin with a 2 day journey to the relevant caverns.
