Gown’s New Spell

Control Krakkens

Line of Sight

The target Space Krakkens may make a saving throw versus Law. They receive a bonus or penalty depending on the difference between their hit dice, and the caster’s. On a failed save, they are subject to a number of commands equal to the caster’s level, after which they are automatically freed, and cannot be re-controlled for 24 hours.

The caster can target as many space Krakkens as they like with this spell. However, each Krakken gets a +1 bonus to their save for every target of the spell beyond the first.

1. Spell works normally, but only 1 command is allowed.
2. Spell works normally, but the Krakken will do the opposite of what you tell them to do.
3. Spell makes the Krakken very angry, they and their compatriots attack the caster without regard for their lives.
4.The spell causes one of the targeted space krakkens, and the caster, to switch minds for 3 hours. If either dies while in this state, the other can never return to their body.

Highlights Recap

The session started with the party loading up on fuel, and moving what fuel remained in the Krakken’s den over near the entrance, so it would be easy for them to access later. They then took on board the 4 Krakken Eggs, 6 Krakken babies, and all the loot they found on the two abandoned vessels in the Space Krakken’s den.

Tearing the mechanical arm off The Imperial to add to their own ship, the party then used one arm to take hold of each ship, and set off for Port Ryshk, where they intended to sell the two ships as scrap. (This arrangement prevented them from using a hyperspace jump). (On the way, crews worked to remove armor plates from The Imperial, so they could be affixed to The Bosco in port.)

On the way out they sent a “Nice, but threatening” message to the Space Hobos who live in the Krakken’s den, telling them the Krakken was taken care of, but not to mess with any of the party’s stuff left on the other side. The Space Hobos seemed not to have a problem with this.

En route, the party encountered a strange ring-shaped world, spinning around a very tiny–but healthy–sun. (About the size of earth) The party marked it on their map, and decided they’d return later.

Upon reaching Port Ryshk, the party were briefly interrogated by a customs official before they were allowed to berth The Bosco in drydock 40, and repairs began.

The party took 2 months off at this point, selling off some loot, upgrading the Bosco, training, and resting. While selling off the Anturgian art they found on The Imperial, they used the identicards of the crew of The Mary Joe. Nobody really questioned it since identification isn’t required for the selling of goods, but it was noted as odd that the faces on the cards clearly didn’t match the faces of the people holding them.

So passed Germinal & Floreal of the Year of the Kings, 31,618

Once all was done, the party set back out in their newly repaired and repainted vessel, curious to check out the ring world they passed on their way in.

When they arrived in its vicinity, they scanned the planet, and found it swarming with primitive, intelligent life. When they hailed it, however, a fat man behind a desk wearing a labcoat answered. He tried to shoo the party off, and transmitted them a document officially registering this as an “Uncharted, private world.” (The party were not able to determine if this document was geniune).

The party talked to the man back and forth for a bit, trying to figure out his game, and eventually just asking if he had any work for him. It was at this point that they asked if he had an interest in exotic pets. What the party MEANT was that they had a few multicolored pet rats aboard they could sell him. It’s unclear what he thought they meant, but his face immediately took on a suspicious cast. A moment later, turbolasers spaced around the edge of the ring turned, and began to fire on The Bosco.
