Highlights Recap

The party meticulously used their DoT letterheaded papers to give themselves fake titles. They presented their forged credentials to the robot guarding the entryway, and were granted access. Immediately thereafter they set about reprogramming the robot to prioritize service to them over any loyalties to the DoT.

Within the bunker the party found a large device they identified as a matter energy transporter pad. After some tinkering (and a failure which very luckily did not go too wrong), Losco managed to figure out how the thing worked, and activate it. (The Hirelings refused to accompany the party, but Stebben the Mechano Man promised to collect all the grates on Mars and build Losco “a Grate Monument” if he died.)

In an instant, the party found themselves in a room the was similar, but with notable differences in the markings on the wall, letting them know they had, indeed, changed locations. Stepping outside the room revealed to them a magnificent sight: a black field of stars, and Mars rotating lazily beneath them. The party had been transported to a space station. Better yet: a space station with a space ship still docked with it.

The party poked around for a short while before their investigations were interrupted by a familiar modem-like sound. A group of 12 creatures had transported in behind them. Not mutants, either. Their anatomy was consistent, and their technology was advanced: each wore a suit made from a kind of liquid gel. They were members of an honest to goodness alien race.

The aliens aggressively started to herd the party back the way they had come, and initially the party intentionally acted dumb and compliant. The aliens let their guard down at this, and even played with & teased the party as one might with an animal. Losco nobly shoved his finger down his throat to cause a distraction, while Jeb used his stealth abilities to sneak off to the security office. On the way he managed to recruit two combat robots using his false credentials & some lucky rolls. In security, he was able to acquire some laser rifles, some pistols, some shotguns, and one nutty shuriken launcher with ‘badass’ stickers on it.

Gown returned to the group with his robots and his weapons just as the aliens were getting tired of Losco’s problems, and started trying to put a strange device onto his head. Jeb got his robots and himself into position, then announced himself with a laser rifle aimed squarely at one of the aliens. He tried negotiating at first.

The party learned that the aliens intended to wipe their memories and send them back to the surface, because “humans are not allowed to have advanced technology.” The creature was cagey about why, and who gave them the authority to impose this sanction, but they were clear in articulating that if they didn’t ensure the humans remained primitive, their own lives would be forfeit for dereliction of duty. Realizing there was no middle ground, Jeb interrupted the creature by blasting its head clean off.

Thus began an epic battle, which easily ranks among the top 10 most intense ever to occur in ORWA. We kept going until a full hour after our normal end time, and I won’t bother recounting every back and forth that occurred. Suffice to say that both of the robots Jeb had recruited got destroyed, and Jinny Beau was hit with a blast that left her with 3rd degree burns all over her body.

At the end of it all, though, only the party was still standing.
